"The Ides of March", "The Descendants", "Moneyball", "The Help" e "The Artist" estão entre os filmes mais nomeados, sendo notórias e escandalosas as ausências de "Take Shelter" e "Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy", ou as escassas nomeações de "Drive", "Shame", "War Horse" e "Carnage". Nas categorias secundárias também encontramos coisas estranhas e sem razão, como a ausência de "Kung Fu Panda 2" e a inclusão de "Cars 2" na corrida ao Globo de Ouro de Melhor Filme de Animação, ou a inclusão do recente "In The Land of Blood and Honey" entre os nomeados ao Globo de Ouro de Melhor Filme Estrangeiro. Os nomeados de Televisão também incluem algumas surpresas e injustiças que são, mesmo assim, menos evidentes que as de cinema.
